The Ondo State governorship election is fast approaching. On October 20, 2020, all indigenes of Ondo State would be out to the election poll to vote for the candidate of their choice. The major contenders are Rotimi Akeredolu, APC candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, PDP gubernatorial aspirants, and Agboola Ajayi, representing ZLP.The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) headed by the former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, became a third force party after the Deputy Governor of Ondo State Agboola Ajayi, detected to the party. Ajayi is hopeful that the people of Ondo State would vote for him come October 20, 2020. Truthfully, Mimiko influence in Ondo State is enough for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, and All Progressives Congress flag-bearer, Rotimi Akeredolu, to wary for him.
But the hopeful of Ajayi got a setback on Sunday as ZLP Chairman, Prince Newton Olomu, four wards Chairmen and some party executives in Ese-Odo Local Government defected to Akeredolu’s party, APC. In his address, the ZLP Deputy Chairman, Engineer Abayomi Adebayo while speaking on behalf of the defectors, said the reason for defecting to APC is to join hands with the Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to move the state to the next level.
Furthermore, he spoke about a seaport been constructed by the Ex-Governor, Late Olusegun Agagu, but Mimiko abandoned the project for the eight years he was in office. Not only that, the University at Okitipupa was abandoned by Mimiko. He said had it been Mimiko did not abandon Agagu’s projects, the state would have attained greater height. Akeredolu said he would pursue the establishment of the deep seaport and actualize the dreams for the economic prosperity of the state.
