Nigerians differ on what actions the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) should have take after meeting with officials of the Federal Government, with an activist, Deji Adeyanju saying that the strike was shelved because “they fear Buhari too much”.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had planned an industrial strike action over the hike in fuel prices and electricity tariff.
However, following an extended meeting that saw the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba; TUC President, Quadri Olaleye; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, the unions decided to suspend teh strike actions after reaching an agreement.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their views on the development.
Activist, Deji Adeyanju, said that the unions “compromised” out of fear for President Muhammadu Buhari, and that there was “no solid agreement reached”.
He tweeted, “They have compromised. They fear Buhari so much. No solid agreement reached. So after 2-weeks suspension of electricity tariff, what next? So, this fuel price is okay, right?”
