The New Electoral Act by INEC has received further commendation by a support group at a symposium by Abuja for Peter Obi, organized to conscientize its members ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Guest speakers at the occasion spoke in turns about the provisions which has given voters the right to cast votes without fear or intimidation.
Barrister Victor Giwa, an INEC accredited polls observer spoke passionately about the electronic transmission of results saying “the use of BIVAS Machine will automatically rule out any possibility of rigging elections as results will be transmitted electronically”.
Barrister Giwa also explained the new model of open secret ballot which gives everyone the power to choose and vote candidates of their choice even if they were under intimidation, stressing that ” with improved security for voters Nigerians will witness a free and more transparent elections in 2023″.
On vote buying and inducement Giwa says ” the penalty for such is enormous and the public should not sell their rights as it will be detrimental and can lead to choice of incompetent leaders for the nation”.
Convener of the group Chinemerem Iwuanyawu commended INEC on its innovation and used the occasion to enlighten attendees to come all out to vote during the forth coming elections in order to produce good leaders for the country.
“I call on my fellow women to go and obtain their PVCs because the symposium has given us fresh perspective of the new electoral Act to become more involved in electing good leaders at all level of governance. I see hope and progress for the nation if we are determined to rescue the nation from misrule by voting massively”.
